Great Commission Prayer & Fasting: September 2023

"Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" - Psalm 46:10

And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. - Luke 10:2

We are currently in a season of looking at the Great Commission that Jesus gave to his disciples (Matthew 28:16-20), and asking questions about how God is calling Missio to be making disciples throughout the nations. As part of this process, we are going to pray and fast together in September, to seek God's heart and direction for Missio's next step in fulfilling the Great Commission and participating in the call of Acts 1:8 - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

For the month of September, we are inviting everyone in the Missio Family to choose one day to commit to fast (from something of your choice for 24 hrs) and set aside time to pray. There are two ways that you can sign up for a day: write your name and email on a day on the physical calendar in the main lobby, or by filling out the electronic calendar. It is okay to choose more than one day. And it is okay to have more than one person per day. Our desire is to have at least one person seeking the Lord’s heart in this way on each day of September. On the day(s) you choose you will Fast and P.R.A.Y.

Pause: Set aside time to be with the Lord, to listen and pray. We recommend setting aside time in the morning, in the midday, and at night (ex. 10-15 mins during each part of the day).

Reflect: Read and reflect on a Scripture speaking of God’s heart of love and work of redemption in the world. Suggested scriptures: John 3:16-17; Psalm 117

Ask: God would you reveal to me aspects of your heart for the salvation of your world and the role Missio is to play in it? 

Yield: Ask God to clarify anything you think/feel/sense/see during your time. Thank God for his plan and work of salvation in Christ, and for inviting us to be participants in it. Thank God for the ways he has spoken to you.
